Like traditional massage, Thai oil massage is based on relaxing, opening and stimulating the energy pathways called Sen, with the difference that it is a blend of traditional Thai massage and classical Western oil massage.
Aromatherapy – oils that intoxicate the senses
Clients choose Thai aroma massage for the purpose of relaxation, mood improvement or pain relief. Traditionally, fine paraffin oil is used and it is up to each individual to choose which essential oils they prefer. The effects of fragrant essences can vary. People who suffer from depression or lethargy tend to choose orange essence to lift their mood, energise and uplift the mind. Other favorites include the following essences:
Bergamot: relieves stress and anxiety, calms and promotes Chi flow
Lavender: relieves tension, soothes pain, regenerates the skin, is relaxing and helps with insomnia
Eucalyptus: refreshes, relaxes tense muscles, has a revitalizing effect on the body and soul and has a positive effect on respiratory health
Cedarwood: helps with colds, respiratory problems, harmonises and relieves heavy mental stress
Tea tree: nourishes and beautifies the skin, removes negative energy, refreshes
Essential oils can therefore be used directly on the skin, but they also have positive effects when diffused into the air, either through an aroma lamp or a diffuser. For example, pure peppermint essential oil has a cooling effect, which may not always be desirable in a massage, so it is better to diffuse it. However, this is individual.
Aromatherapy – migraine
Migraine is not a pleasant condition and it is surprising that 1.3 billion people suffer from it worldwide. If you are one of them, try an aroma massage. Generally for pain (not just headaches) and migraines, the aforementioned peppermint helps, thanks to its high menthol content. Rosemary oil also has a positive effect, relaxing the muscles and working on the problem from within through inhalation.
Tension headaches can also be relieved by chamomile essential oil. In addition, it also relieves anxiety and improves sleep. As you may have already noticed in yourself, lack of sleep often makes your migraines worse or triggers them.
We recommend that everyone give aroma massage a try. It is a combination of the pleasant and the useful and you will leave the massage parlour feeling relaxed and wonderfully refreshed!
